Born and raised in Michigan, Darcy is a sports writer turned serious nonfiction author. Her first book, PeaceJam: How Young People Can Make Peace in Their Schools and Communities, was published by Jossey-Bass in March 2004.

Photo: Darcy GiffordThe book’s release was marked by a public reading at the famed Tattered Cover Bookstore in downtown Denver and several readings at bookstores in Colorado and Michigan. Darcy was interviewed by media outlets that included KMGH Channel 7 (ABC affiliate in Denver), KNRC Radio (AM 1150 Denver), Denver Post, and Rocky Mountain News.

Prior to penning the book for the PeaceJam Foundation, Darcy was the director of public relations at Adrian College (Mich.) and also spent 11 years as the school’s sports information director. Her story Renaissance was honored as “best in the nation” by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in the historical feature category. She is now the director of communications and marketing at an independent school, teaches college-level composition, and is a freelance writer. Her clients include the PeaceJam Foundation, the Michigan Restaurant Association, and the Lenawee Council for the Visual Arts.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Adrian College and a master’s degree in organizational communication from Western Michigan University.
